turn fomo into jomo

Recently, my fomo (fear of missing out) is at an all time high. I never used to get fomo if we're being honest. I probably spent most of my nights sophomore year watching a rom-com while my friends lived the same downtown Thursday for the fifteenth time in a row. I did not really care, I had jomo (joy of missing out). I loved to just do my own thing and prioritize sleep. Maybe my social battery would just die. After all, I was living in a house with 50 girls and never had my own space or time. Regardless, all of last year and this year I have been spending each and every night living that same downtown Athens Thursday night. I pretty much go out with the same group, wear a variation of the same outfit, and take the same gross vodka shots at the pregame. It is nothing that special. I mean, of course, we have those golden nights out that then get talked about for the next six weeks - or months - depending on how outrageous it was. But, it is mainly the same mediocre night out. Although, I love these nights and I cannot stop living them. My body is seemingly shutting down from exhaustion, greasy food, and alcohol but I HAVE to go out.

But heres the thing, actually I don't. I wish I could channel my sophomore year self for a night and have jomo for once. This may be your sign to relax, take one night off of the booze and put on a really good rom-com you haven't seen. It has also come to my attention that many of my friends have not seen the iconic film, 50 First Dates, so maybe queue that up while you're at it. My friends, we do not need to have fomo. Take some rest and embark in the new all encompassing fun of a night home with jomo.

Updating you days after I wrote this:

I took my own advice and indulged in a night of jomo! Although I dream of being at the Eras Tour, or even downtown Athens, I am resting with friends on the couch watching The Notebook. Which arguably is the best romantic film of all time. I could give you a full blog post on how much I love romantic movies. Truth be told, I love jomo. So, please, turn on a good movie, get comfortable, gather some snacks, and have jomo for a night. Sometimes, it may be all we need to refresh and ground us.
