Happy New Year! Although this tends to be one of my least favorite holidays (partially because nostalgia kills me and I hate getting older), I still do enjoy self-reflection. This year I wanted to name 25 things I learned in 2025.
In no particular order:
To have a village, you must be a villager.
Vulnerability is not a weakness but a strength & it is okay to cry.
Your therapist is always a call away.
Set a routine and stick to it.
Post-grad is NOTHING like college.
College graduation is sad and you may never hear or speak to some friends again so cherish it!
Family is important now (in your twenties) more than ever.
The death of your childhood dog hurts much more than you imagined.
Going on dates is fun!
Say yes to meeting new people and friends and going to new places, learn people's stories.
Your brain can handle more than you thought was possible.
Go on outdoor walks anytime you can.
You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.
Never choose a man over your girls.
Listen to music with the windows down if you're having a bad day.
Don't stay friends with the girl that did everyone wrong.
Travel as much as you can - solo travel never killed anyone either (I mean be careful).
Do things you are scared of/did not think was possible. Chase your dreams!
Allow yourself to feel the weight of an accomplishment - but don't take the gas off the pedal.
Fight for what you believe in - stand up for things and people you love.
Catch as many sunsets as possible.
Comparison is the true thief of joy.
Forgiveness does not reset your relationship, but it can help.
Hang out with your siblings.
Keep writing as often as you have ideas - create something.
Take my words of advice to 2026 shall you need them. I encourage you to reflect on what you did this year, what you learned, and how you spent the past year loving yourself and others. Set vision boards for 2026 because there is so much left to accomplish.
I will see you in 2026 with more words and unsolicited advice.
Reflecting and optimistic,
Jane
